Welcome to the Western & Darling Downs Aquathlon — a community‑driven, junior‑focused, inclusive event designed to support athletes of all abilities. Whether you’re racing competitively, participating for fun, or supporting a young athlete, we’re excited to have you join us.

Course Details

Swim – 50m Outdoor Pool

  • Start type: Feet‑first water start
  • Wetsuits: Not permitted
  • Lane etiquette:
    • No tumbleturns
    • At the end of each lap, go under the lane rope to begin the next lap
  • Water safety:
    • Lifeguards on deck
    • Pool staff present
    • Rescue equipment poolside
    • Two qualified first aiders on site

Run Course Features

  • Surface: Cement pathways
  • Direction: Anti‑clockwise
  • Keep left at all times
  • Some tight turns
  • Youth C and Junior Multi‑Class run against the flow on their return leg
  • Spectators must avoid the pathway while athletes are on course

Aid Stations

  • Two aid stations, one at each end of the loop
  • Water only

  • Athletes may place items anywhere within the marked transition zone (first‑come, first‑served)
  • Please be courteous and keep belongings contained to a reasonable area
  • No running on the pool deck (cement)
  • No bag drop or secure gear storage provided

Wave Start Order

Designed to ensure safe flow, minimise congestion, and allow all athletes to finish before presentations.

Loop length: approx. 1.7 km

  1. Open & Junior A – 07:45
  2. Junior B – 07:55
  3. Enticer & MC Enticer – 08:05
  4. Youth A – 08:20
  5. Youth B – 08:30
  6. Junior Multi‑Class (1 km out‑and‑back) – 08:40

This order ensures:

  • Out‑and‑back groups have a quiet course
  • Minimal two‑way traffic
  • Safe conditions for MC and younger athletes
  • A smooth lead‑in to presentations
  • Can be adjusted depending on registrations

Governing Rules

This event follows Triathlon Australia Race Rules, with additional local rules for safety.

Additional Event Rules

  • No personal music devices
  • Follow all marshal instructions
  • Torso must be covered during the run
  • No running on the pool deck
  • No tumbleturns
  • Must go under the lane rope at each lap turn

Mandatory Equipment

  • Swim cap (provided)
  • Goggles (optional)
  • Shoes for the run
  • Race bib (visible on the run)

Prohibited Equipment

  • Fins
  • Snorkels
  • Headphones
  • Hand paddles

Medical Support

  • Two first aiders from the committee
  • Pool lifeguards on duty

Parking

  • Ample street parking
  • Do not park on footpaths or across driveways
  • Please respect local residents

Toilets & Change Rooms

  • Located inside Dalby Aquatic Centre
  • Please avoid using mobile phones in these areas

Spectators

  • Large grandstand available
  • Spectators may access the run course but must stay off the pathway

Check‑In Requirements

  • Please bring ID
  • Online registration strongly encouraged

Heat Policy

  • If temperatures exceed 40°C, races may be shortened

Water Quality / Pool Closure

  • If the 50m pool is unavailable, the event will relocate to the 25m indoor pool

Severe Weather

  • Race may be delayed or postponed for safety

Registration & Fees

Online registration is strongly encouraged. On the day entries may not be accepted.

Online registration closes at 5:00 pm the day before the race.

Race Fees

  • Toowoomba Tri Club Members: $5
  • Austriathlon Members: $10
  • Non‑Tri Australia Members:
    • Adults: $15 (includes One Day Licence)
    • Children: $10 (ODL free)

Family Entry

$20 for:

  • Up to 2 adults + 2 children, or
  • 1 adult + up to 3 children

Adults: + $5 each adult who is not AusTri member, children get ODL free.

Registrations will open as soon as the sanctioning process is finalised
